Is Biker Safety A Color Issue?

In the past few years many of us have felt the heart wrenching loss of a loved one or friend in a motorcycle accident. More often the cause of these accidents have been the fault of the motorist not paying attention. That is why it is vital that bikers be proactive when they are out on the road and watch out for potential dangers. Learn to be a "defensive biker." Never assume that a motorist sees you, don't ride to close to a motorist and give yourself room to make a proper stop.
Now there has been a lot of talk about bikers not wearing black to make themselves more visible. I guess that is all up to the biker but I wonder if there is something to this? Loud pipes may save lives but would brighter colors also help?
The bottom line is that people have to pay more attention to where they are going and what they are doing.
